Just when I thought it was a typical guidebook... the author's opinions are interspersed throughout, making it an interesting book to read.
Especially, the way the islands are disparaged is good.
You can enjoy deep introductions that you can't experience in ordinary guidebooks.

Overall Review

Islands around Okinawa are introduced with vivid photographs.
While it makes you want to visit because it's so beautiful, just like a guidebook, it comes with fun explanations that dampen that enthusiasm.
For example, gems like these pop up frequently:

  • The misfortune of this island is being in Kagoshima Prefecture, and it's not prospering due to lack of subsidies and preferential policies
  • Ishigaki beef is becoming increasingly inconsistent in taste
  • You can tell the island is thriving on homestays by the grade of the boats
  • If this is the famous spot, tourists will never come to this island

Since this isn't a tourist guide published by a travel agency, but rather introduces places the author visited as a hobby, you can read such candid opinions.

Recommended for people who love to travel, those thinking of going to Okinawa, or those who just want to see beautiful photos of islands and seas.
