LiEat Review
Table of Contents
Setting aside the high evaluation and interesting storyline, I bought LiEat because of its cute jacket.
Having cleared the three-part set, I'll write a comprehensive review.
Overall Evaluation: 0 (It's okay to play)
While the graphics and character/world design are excellent, other elements are lacking, and it didn't quite meet my expectations. However, since it's short and affordable, even if you combine all three works, it's not a waste of time.
Rough Overview
The game follows the story of a dragon girl and a swindler as they travel and solve mysteries. The girl has the ability to eat lies, which she uses to resolve events.
It's an old-fashioned 2D RPG with battles, but the gameplay is simple.
Good Points
Firstly, the graphic quality is notable. The illustrations and movies that appear occasionally are extremely well-made. The 2D RPG-style pixel art is also beautifully drawn, playing a crucial role in immersing players in the world.
Next, the character design is excellent, and I'm willing to bet that 99 out of 100 people will say "✓ Effina is cute" in a post-clear survey. It's not just that she's cute; it's also great to see her grow gradually throughout the three works.
Additionally, the three works are well-paced and unified, with a short and sweet style. As you progress through the series, the mystery of the protagonist's birth is gradually revealed, making it easy to complete all three works.
Furthermore, the game has a good balance of elements, such as multiple endings, and is very affordable at 298 yen, which is cheaper than a bowl of gyudon. Plus, it comes with a soundtrack!
Not-So-Good Points
While my evaluation so far has been positive, there are some points that left me questioning and dissatisfied.
A major concern is that the necessity of RPG elements is unclear. The exploration to "see through lies" is not very necessary, and the puzzle-solving is too easy, making it feel like you can just go through the motions without any problems. Additionally, the game balance is off, and battles are just a matter of button-mashing, which makes the gameplay feel weak.
Some minor complaints include the outdated system, lack of volume adjustment, and limited screen resolution options.
Other
- For some reason, the sound settings in the gallery mode are very detailed.
Conclusion
While there are some points that left me feeling unfulfilled, the game's strengths as a short work are very impressive. Since it's short and affordable, I can recommend it as a great way to kill some time.
