Her Story Review

about5mins to read

I was looking for a game to practice my English skills, and I stumbled upon this game.
I've "cleared" it, so I'll write a review.

Note that I've tried not to include spoilers in this article, which has resulted in a rather empty review.

Overall evaluation: +1 (Recommended!)

Even among the many Steam games, this one can be called a masterpiece.
You might question whether it can be called a game at all, but that's what makes it interesting.

Whether you'll enjoy it or not depends entirely on personal taste, but I found it fascinating.
I recommend playing it without any prior knowledge.

Overview

I won't write about it to avoid spoilers.

Good points

The most notable aspect is its unique game system.
Although it's confusing at first, with no explanations and an unconventional progression, it's cleverly designed to make you understand what you need to do.

The system allows for high freedom, making each player's progression different, and the challenging parts are well-executed.
For example, in open-world games, areas with valuable equipment have strong enemies to maintain game balance.
Similarly, this game seems to have a well-adjusted difficulty level, making it a true game.

Additionally, the detailed visual effects and elements unrelated to the main story create a rich atmosphere.
There are also some clever jokes, and those familiar with the early days of the internet might enjoy it even more.

Bad points

The game is quite special, and it's unclear what constitutes clearing it.
As a result, I didn't feel a strong sense of accomplishment. It's not very satisfying...

The scenario itself is not particularly noteworthy, and I felt it could have been more polished.
Perhaps the next installment will be more promising...
There are many unfamiliar terms and place names, so if it were more like a Japanese mystery novel, my personal evaluation might have been higher.

The game balance is generally good, but there are some parts where you're stuck if you don't know what to do.
I wish they had added more hints or conversations and removed some of the extremely short scenes.

Although the game has subtitles, I'm not confident in recommending it for English language practice.
There's a Japanese subtitle patch available, so if you want to enjoy the game, you might want to use it.

Conclusion

I apologize for the lack of content in this review, but I tried to avoid spoilers.

If you're looking for an unusual game, you might want to give it a try.
If you enjoy escape games, you might particularly enjoy this game's system.
