Room Updates - 2019.05 - Wobbly Cuboid

Summary

  • Minor modifications
  • Removing is also a worthy update

Improvement of Issues

Consolidating laptop power supply on the right side

Until now, I had been plugging it in on the left side, which caused the cable to get caught, but upon closer inspection of the MBP, there are ports on the right side as well! By consolidating the power adapter on the right side, comfortable movement has been achieved. It's important to look closely at the ports.

Using magnets instead of clothespins to close curtains

Until now, I had been using clothespins to close the bottom of poorly fitting curtains. As opening and closing the clothespins was somewhat troublesome, I installed clip magnets sold at 100 yen shops, making it easier to seal the curtains. The challenge is that the magnetic force is somewhat weak, so I need to bring them closer together. It might be good to embed stronger magnets in the curtains, but I'll observe for a while.

Extension cord problem in the washroom

By fixing not only the main body but also the cable part to the wall, the downward force has weakened, making it much less likely to fall.

New Improvements

Controlling the air conditioner with Alexa

Via LS Mini, I made it possible to turn on the air conditioner by talking to Alexa. Although it hasn't been very hot lately, it seems summer is approaching.

Removal of HDD tower

Updates are not just about adding things. This time, I removed the HDD tower (a device that allows multiple HDDs to be inserted and accessed via USB) that had been sitting there. This allowed me to organize the floor and the box in the closet.

As I wasn't using it much, the internal data was only a few hundred GB when organized. Now it's placed in Dropbox (business plan).

Preparing a bag for DDR

Until now, I had been using the same bag for DDR that I use daily, but it was troublesome to repack DDR-specific items (towels, plastic bags, spray, etc.). With this update, I prepared a bag specifically for DDR and packed DDR-specific items in it, reducing repacking time.

Purchase of new Genbu controller

I had been using the Genbu controller for several years, but there were issues such as forcibly connecting a broken cable and the high feet getting stuck in the grooves of the metal rack. Although it's still usable, I was also interested in PHOENIX WAN and decided to purchase it. It's working smoothly.

Introduction of card holder

I bought a card holder at a 100 yen shop and put company-related cards together with my employee ID on a lanyard. This time only one card was reduced from my wallet, but I'd like to continue consolidating to slim down my thick wallet.

Ongoing issues

  • Laptop and books are placed on the floor
  • Desk and chair are in the way
  • Hair dryer placement is low
  • Refrigerator is noisy

Conclusion

This month's changes were minor. It seems more issues will arise as summer approaches.
