I cannot drink wine (alcohol), but I want to enjoy something delicious, even if it's a bit pricey. I think about 98% of Japanese people share this sentiment.
So, I tried several types of grape juice (not a metaphor) and related juices, reviewing them on a five-point scale. As a result, I discovered that there are many varieties, and some of them are quite delicious. Maybe I can find a juice that can replace wine?
Note that the review results are subjective, and I tend to highly evaluate sweet juices. If you're interested, please try them yourself.
Red Juice
Siduri Minyar Sparkling Wine Grape Juice
- Evaluation: A
- Summary: The grape flavor is rich and quite sweet, like a refined Welch's grape juice. The carbonation is strong at first, but it becomes mellow after a few days, making it enjoyable in two ways.
- Memo: The 750ml bottle is no longer available on Amazon, and only the 375ml set is available.
Kello Sparkling Fruit Juice Red Grape
- Evaluation: S
- Summary: The balance of sweetness and grape acidity is perfect. It's similar to Siduri, but I prefer this one.
Seijo Ishii Chamei Sparkling Red Grape
- Evaluation: C
- Summary: It's very sweet, with a strong grape flavor, but it's a bit monotonous.
Pure Pom Sparkling Grape Juice (Red)
- Evaluation: A
- Summary: It's sweet, but it brings out the sweetness of grapes. If it were a bit more refined, it would be even better. It's a great sweet grape juice.
Alps Shinshu Concord Straight Juice
- Evaluation: C
- Summary: It has a strong 100% grape juice feel, but it's a bit watery and lacks sweetness. It might be good for grape lovers.
Duc de Montagny Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Rosé
- Evaluation: D
- Summary: It has a strong champagne-like flavor, which I don't like. If you like champagne but can't drink alcohol, this might be good.
White Juice
Pure Pom Sparkling White Grape
- Evaluation: B
- Summary: It's similar to Kello. Maybe this is what good white grape juice tastes like.
Alan Millia Sauvignon Blanc
- Evaluation: A
- Summary: It's rich, but the aftertaste is relatively refreshing. It doesn't have a strong raw grape flavor, so it's recommended for those who want a refined sweet juice.
Juices Other Than Grape
Seijo Ishii Chamei Sparkling Apple Juice
- Evaluation: B
- Summary: It tastes like biting into a fresh apple. It's refreshing and not too sweet or sour, but the skin flavor is not my favorite.
Kello Sparkling Fruit Juice Apple
- Evaluation: B
- Summary: It has a subtle acidity and sweetness. It has a unique flavor, so opinions may vary. Personally, I wish it had a bit more grape flavor.
Aureli Carrot Juice
- Evaluation: D
- Summary: It's just like eating raw carrots. I didn't realize I didn't like carrots, so I don't know why I bought it. Carrot lovers might have the opposite opinion.
Shiny Sparkling Apple
- Evaluation: A
- Summary: It's refreshing and smooth, with weak carbonation and no unpleasant aftertaste. It's well-balanced and about twice the price of canned juice.
Conclusion
I found that there are many types of juices out there. Even those who can't drink alcohol can find their favorite drink and enjoy the feeling of being a wine lover.
