- Summary
I can't drink wine (alcohol). But I want to drink something delicious, even if it's a bit expensive. I think 98% of Japanese people have such feelings.
So, I drank several types of grape juice (not a metaphor) and related juices, and arbitrarily reviewed them on a five-point scale.
As a result, I found that there are various types, and I was able to discover some that I found quite delicious. They should be able to adequately substitute for wine.
Note that the review results are subjective, and I tend to rate sweet things highly. If you're interested, try them yourself.
Red Juices
Cidolri Mignard Sparkling Wine Grape Juice
- Rating: A
- Summary: Rich grape flavor, quite sweet. Feels like an elegant version of Welch's. Quite strong carbonation right after opening. A few days later, it becomes mellow, making it delicious twice from one bottle.
- Note: The 750ml bottle had disappeared from Amazon, and only the 375ml combined purchase was available
Kero Sparkling Fruit Juice Red Grape
- Rating: S
- Summary: The balance of sweetness and grape acidity is exquisite. Very similar to the above Cidolri, but I prefer this one
Seijo Ishii Chamei Sparkling Red Grape
- Rating: C
- Summary: Very sweet. Strong grape flavor, but monotonous
Pure Pomme Sparkling Grape Juice (Red)
- Rating: A
- Summary: It's sweet, but it's a sweetness that seems to enhance the grape flavor. It would have been even better if it had a slightly crisper sweetness. Very good as a sweet grape juice
Alps Shinshu Concord Straight Juice
- Rating: C
- Summary: Strongly feels like 100% grape juice, for better or worse. Feels a bit watery, and the sweetness is slightly lacking. Might be good for grape lovers
Duc de Montagne Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Rosé
- Rating: D
- Summary: Tastes very much like champagne. So much so that I wonder if it contains alcohol. In other words, it's a taste I don't like. It might be good if you like the taste of champagne but can't consume alcohol
White Juices
Pure Pomme Sparkling White Grape
- Rating: B
- Summary: Feels the same as Kero. Maybe all good white grapes taste like this.
Alain Milliat Sauvignon Blanc
- Rating: A
- Summary: It's rich, but the aftertaste is relatively refreshing. There's not much of a fresh grape feel, so it's recommended for people who want to drink an elegant sweet juice.
Non-Grape Juices
Seijo Ishii Chamei Sparkling Apple Juice
- Rating: B
- Summary: Tastes like biting into an apple with the skin on. Juicy. Not too sweet, not too sour, quite a good balance, but I'm not too fond of the skin taste
Kero Sparkling Fruit Juice Apple
- Rating: B
- Summary: A mix of faint acidity and sweetness. It has a slightly unique flavor, so people's preferences might vary. Personally, I would have preferred a bit more grape feel.
Aureli Carrot Juice
- Rating: D
- Summary: Just carrot. Tastes like eating raw carrots, but in juice form. Come to think of it, I didn't like carrots, why did I buy this? People who like carrots would probably rate it the opposite
Shiny Sparkling Apple
- Rating: A
- Summary: Refreshing and mellow. The carbonation is quite weak, and the apple flavor isn't overpowering. It doesn't have the unpleasant aftertaste often found in apple juices and seems well-adjusted. About twice the price of canned juice
Summary
When I looked, I found that there are surprisingly many types of juices. Even if you don't drink alcohol, why not try finding your favorite drink and experience the feeling of a wine enthusiast?
