"13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim" Review
Table of Contents
I tried it because it was a hot topic.
It felt like ADV 3.0.
It's well-organized and takes around 30 hours to complete.
Overall evaluation: +1 (Recommended!)
Overview
The ADV part and the Tower Defense part exist independently, and you need to play both to unlock each other.
Good points
Above all, the quality of the ADV part is high.
The story, graphics, and sound are all of high quality, and the system is not just a simple ADV but includes action elements.
The complex story is also smoothly progressed through the ADV system's craftsmanship and character motions.
From a static image ADV to a more advanced ADV 2.0 like YU-NO, this work has a difference that can be called ADV 3.0 (roughly speaking).
The device of switching between 13 characters to progress the story is also well-done.
Usually, ADVs have around 5 perspective switches, but this work has 13, and they are finely divided throughout the route.
It's very complex, but the character development and composition are so well-done that I didn't feel lost.
Bad points
The story is carefully crafted, but it lacks surprising elements. Also, the timing of information disclosure was sometimes disappointing, and the latter half felt like it was just explanations.
The graphics are very well-done, but the 2D characters and standing pictures give different impressions, which felt inconsistent.
The Tower Defense part becomes monotonous because each unit's abilities overlap.
I didn't have a big complaint, but I thought it would be more interesting if each unit had a unique trump card.
Conclusion
Overall, the quality is high, and the ADV part is particularly noteworthy.
While it may not be suitable for those who prioritize story, the system and character expression are well-done as an ADV.
It's a work that I can recommend to anyone (CERO C).
